Legal Nurse Consultant & Insurance Companies
Many legal nurse consultants work for insurance companies that provide health-related insurance products such as medical insurance, life insurance, or Workers’ Comp. They are also employed by auto and medical malpractice insurance companies.
Position held by LNCs include medical policy development, billing auditors, case management, and claims manager. In addition to having good computer and communication skills, LNCs should have strong clinical backgrounds, be organized, and have great analytical skills.
Although eligibility requirements vary, many insurance companies require LNCs to have at least a bachelor’s degree in their field, five years of clinical experience, and certification in a specialty. Usually the insurance company will also offer on-the-job training programs for new employees to bring them up to speed on the company’s policies, products, procedures, and industry standards.
If you are interested in working for an insurance company, you can find positions listed in professional journals, nursing job boards, the Internet, and newspapers.
