Legal Nurse Consultant & Medical Case Management
A variety of companies employ medical case managers including Workers’ Compensation, insurance companies, and privately-owned businesses that provide case management services. LNCs that wish to work in this field must know about insurance regulations, the insurance benefits available to the client, and resources available in the community. Their job is to help the client receive the best health care possible while managing costs.
Typically, medical case managers handle cases involving long-term disability, catastrophic illnesses, or other serious medical conditions that require extensive care over a long period of time (e.g. brain injury, high risk pregnancy). The nurses that do well in this field are ones that have experience in rehabilitation, home health care, orthopedics, or occupational nursing. LCNs with the Certified Case Manager or Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse credentials will enjoy better job prospects.
